Recently I noticed my Sheraton lathe has not been performing that well, the spindle seemed to have some drag or resistance .
I pulled the spindle out today and discovered why, the bearings are shot . These bearings would be the original 50 year old factory ones , the larger chuck end bearing is a UK Timken, the smaller bearing is a German FAG brand
I need advice re buying new bearings,. The guys on the counter at BJ bearings here usually bring out a generic brand , made in asia somewhere. I would like to buy decent bearings, not high precision expensive bearings as its only a hobby lathe .
