whats the best way to fix a badly chipped wooden hand plane toe ?

I have a unmarked wooden hand plane 11" in length. The toe is chipped out lengthwise with the grain on both sides near the very end 1/4" x 1 1/4"

Should I use a table saw dado blade or router and make a half lap joint and close the mouth at the same time after flattening the sole?
