I like using ZCI's because they practically eliminate the slivers of wood that so often otherwise get caught between the blade and the throat plate. One drawback though is the reduction of airflow downward past the blade to assist in directing the sawdust away rather than being lifted out the back of the saw slot above the table. I don't use an overhead guard at present because I'm in love with my Grrippers and those guards don't really work well with Grrippers.
So I'm trying this slightly different approach:

I don't remember seeing anyone else trying this before. The jury is out as to whether it is a real benefit; the sawdust that comes above the table now seems like the more "grainy" part of the spectrum than before and there appears to be less of it, but this is a very subjective observation.
