Hi all =)
Decided to indulge the metalworking bug that's been itching for the last decade or so and have just bought an MMD45 milling machine from Paramount Browns. I've ordered most of my tooling from CTC but am stuck on the vice purchase. I'm looking for a precision machining vice in the 5-6" range weighing around 25kg sans rotating table. I'm planning to try my hand at converting it to CNC down the track, so I'd rather buy quality once than buy junk and have to replace it.
I'm liking the look of the Vertex Anglock V306 6" vice sans rotating table, particularly as the jaws can be positioned on the outside of the vice for larger work holding. H&F link here but available from Alltools WA for $365. Does anyone here have any experience with that vice?
Not really wanting to shell out $1k+ for a precision modular vice if the Anglock (or similar) will have sufficient rigidity and trueness for a box column mill at a more affordable price. The credit card is already glowing cherry red =)
Cheers
Moph
