How abrasive is Villaboard?

Not sure where to put this, but it involves files, so Metalwork is the best fit.

Just wondering how abrasive Villaboard (or similar is)? Strikes me as being extremely abrasive. Last week I had to make a couple of 9" circles (to cap a disused chimney that the possum calls home). I was using Sutton's hack saw blades and they didn't seem to last very long at all before the cutting slowed down.

Then, to shape the circle I used a 16" Super Bastard file (Liogier). I noticed that it too was taking longer as things went on, although it did the job reasonably quickly. I can now see, without the aid of a loupe, that the top of the teeth in the middle of the file are worn down and shiny (can also feel that it's smoother with my finger).

A mate said that the file must be crap and I should send it back (he's going to buy a $5 Chinese file from Home Hardware to show me how it's done  - good luck). I dispute this because the first job I used it for was to file down the teeth of a Float (also Liogier and not quite as high Rc) so that the toe wouldn't cut my fingers. It ripped through the float teeth in no time flat.

The evidence before me is that a quality hack saw blade and a quality file both suffered damage filing this stuff, so it must abrasive in the extreme.

What say you?
