I'm looking for a faster alternative to CA finishes for pens. I have just made a couple of sheoak pens, sanded to 600 grit and finished them with ubeaut shithot waxstik.
Has anyone had any long term experience with this as a pen finish? my concern is that because it doesn't offer a protective layer like CA it won't stand up to the torture most pens are put under with constant rubbing.
Also i would presume that it would only work on fairly hard and dense timbers like sheoak etc, and not on more porous timbers like silky oak or wattle where thin CA has the chance to penetrate the fibres of the timber and give much needed strength to otherwise soft or porous timbers.
Thanks,
Simon
