Well ... I wasn't sure here was the place for this thread ... but I'm actually building something so damned if I'm not posting about it.
:U
The lot next door to us on one side was sold several years ago ... then eventually knocked down ... then eventually flattened ... three times in fact ... then they came to take down the old asbestos fence and replace it with retaining walls and colourbond.
The boss's jarrah beam and shadecloth pergola depended (literally) on the old fence, so when they came to remove it we had to disassemble the "shade house". I've been looking at it sideways for a while now, not wanting to do a butt-joint and coach-bolts job, and finally I could see what I wanted to do and what wood (already here) I wanted to use.
It all started when I re-constructed a limestone wall in the same area that had sat peacefully for ten years, until an enthusiastic foster-dog knocked it over and to pieces while leaping over it.

I had a couple of 3" x 3" posts, 12' each ... and I found that 6' was just right for me, so got 4 posts out of that.
On cutting and being outside a day I found one separating along a significant gum vein.
Fortunately I have discovered "construction adhesive" so I split it all the way, cleaned it out and re-glued.

Things took a first step towards how it will look ...
