I scored a decent chunk of termite eaten Blackbutt burl a long time ago from Col
:2tsup: before he threw it into the fireplace :o. Approx 100mm thick x 500mm long and 300mm wide. I debated on a bowl blank plus others but considered it was going to use too much resin that would ultimately get turned away. So decided to slice it up into 70mm (2.75") square lengths for pepper grinders and the remainder ~25mm (1") thick for pen blanks. It was all dried in the oven to complete drying process before stabilising with Cactus Juice. Normally I would stabilize this sort of stuff after casting due to the small voids but I'll do it the other way around this time as I understand a lot do and do the cooking uncovered to allow bleedout to run away. Worked a treat with little breedout and now comes the best part, casting it all.

Here's the first cast in epoxy using black pigment, bright blue Pearlex, and bright purple Pearlex powders. Basically I mixed up resin in 3 x 250ml cups and poured the purple and blue in before pouring the black over the top. All the mixing is done by the resin as there was too much wood anyway. The cast is now sanded back to 65x65x245 and given a quick coat of lacquer

More casts to come, too dam hot outside at present
