Rural Hardwood Fence Posts

G'day

I usually lurk in the Renovate Forum and I have also posted this there but the topic is a bit left field for that place. So, I am seeking some more specialised (i.e. timber) advice... Anyhow,

I have just received a quote for a rural entrance fence that is a bit more than I was expecting (of course). It will be six qty 300 dia round hardwood posts (3 per side) leading from the gate to the front boundary fence with three rails per side about 140 x 45 to replace the existing strained wire, picket and 25 y.o. "had their time" posts that are there now (see pic, plus a pic of something like what we want). Gate to front fence is about 6M.

My rough expectation was about $2000 for labour (looks to me like a two men for two days job) and around $1000 for material). Fencing isn't my game but I thought posts would be around $80 each and rails $300 or $400 all up, based on nothing but they seemed like reasonable numbers.

Mr Google doesn't help with post costs but I have seen hardwood quoted at up to $250 per cubic metre (a lot more than I thought). At this rate the posts could be $250+ each and rails plus hardware up to $500. Those numbers seem pretty much in line with the quote.

So, does anyone have any idea of hardwood post costs? I don't mind paying the going rate for the job especially as we are in a somewhat remote location and freight always bumps things up a bit, but I would like to get some idea that the quote is fair and reasonable. Thanks in advance for any information.
