I finally found a lathe . They constantly turn up, but are all over the country, aren't they !
I wanted to see it first . so it had to be in Melbourne . This is a little rough with some parts missing , so Ive been ordering some through Mal at AMH .
I have wanted one for a while , as a workshop user for some woodwork machinery restoration, and a thousand other things .
A few years ago I did not have a clue what all the levers and gears did on a lathe . It's not until you get your hands on one that the learning really takes off . what a great Machine :) .
There is some visible wear in the bed, the tail stock is one number out , so not it's original . They must have been in the same school room together I suppose ?
Here is some pictures
I have the books to read more on the subject but plenty of Learner type questions as well, and I'm just starting on the books .
Can any one tell me why there are two gears on the end of the lead screw , that's the screw gear right?
The one being used is 46 teeth and the other , on the outside is 44 teeth.
which is the right one for the feed speeds on the chart plate that's on the gear box? and whats the other for ?
The plate on the gearbox has feed speeds for a stud gear of 20 or 40 , the lathe is running the 20 now , is that 44 I have for the stud gear position and why is it a 44 and not a 40 ??
The textbook of turning I have , there is a chart for inch to metric for the model A but it's for a 260 is this good for my AR 9" ?
I better hold back on questions for now , I have to many .
Thanks. Rob
