QLD Veritas Low Angle Jack Plane with extra blade

NOT AN AUCTION

Selling my Veritas Low Angle Jack Plane. This is part of their bevel up bench plane series. Includes two blades, one of which is beveled at 25deg, has an 8" radius camber, and is made of A2 steel. The other blade is beveled at 35deg with a 2deg microbevel and is made of PM-V11 steel. This blade has been ground more than once and is considerably shorter than it was from the factory. I had a lot of trouble deciding on an angle which worked for me, but, ultimately, this was it. It makes the effective cutting angle 45deg, which is the same as a bevel down plane.

Just to clarify, in case it wasn't obvious from that paragraph, this plane does not include a factory standard blade. Both have been modified - one by steepening the bevel and the other by cambering the cutting edge.

Plane has not been dropped, but I did drop the &%*$*# knob while I was cleaning it for sale, so it's a bit dinged. There's also a bit of chipped/missing Japanning at the front. See photos.

Plane has been cleaned for sale. Full disclosure, this is one of the first planes I owned. At the time, I was not up to speed on hand tool maintenance. I quickly realized what was necessary to keep things in shape, but, unfortunately, this one kind of got away from me. There is a slight amount of pitting on the upper part of the sides near the front. Given that this does not come into play in use, it is purely aesthetic. All other rusting has been kept in check, although there is a speck of surface rust here and there which wouldn't come off in cleaning, particularly on the A-2 blade.

Also, I had to reapply the epoxy which secures the threaded screw inside the knob. I don't know if I overtightened it or if it was a bad epoxy job (I'm blaming Canada!), but it's fixed and there is no visible evidence of this and it works as it always has. I guess, technically, this is a repair, but I've literally just replaced some invisible glue with some invisible glue.

Bottom line: This is a great plane and I was literally using it yesterday. Selling (reluctantly) because I enjoy using vintage tools and money is a bit tight these days.

Asking 300. That's 100 off of the retail price, and it includes a spare (PM-V11) blade. If that's out of your range, don't hesitate to make an offer.

Happy to ship. Otherwise pick up in Dutton Park, Brisbane.

Cheers,
Luke
