Turning Without a Lathe

mardi 21 juillet 2015

Just a couple of tools I turned up, without a lathe, from some mango root I got in a pack of timber from Mapleman a while ago. I roughed them out with planes & rasps, then mounted them in the drill press, where final shaping was done with rasps, files & sandpaper before finishing with a couple of coats of oil.
The marking knife blade is made from an old jigsaw blade & the awl point from an M6 stainless bolt. I held the bolt in a cordless drill against a grinding wheel to form the rough shape & then finished it off in the drill press with files & sandpaper.
