Screwcutting at 2500 RPM on a Hercus.

jeudi 23 juillet 2015

I needed some 1/4" BSF screws for the fence on the Eclipse magnetic chuck on my surface grinder and, although they are still available from some hardware suppliers like Keables, I decided to make my own using M8 socket head cap screws.

The first few turned out OK using the only 55 degree insert that I had but, I was not really happy with the results because the insert was slightly worn on all 3 tips, so I purchase a pack of 5 from T - CARBIDE on ebay. The finish on the flanks of the threads improved a lot and the difference can be seen in the photo's.
