NOT AN AUCTION

Disston D8, 24" blade, 12ppi, crosscut

I bought this saw at a deceased estate sale as part of a lot, only the rest of which I wanted.

It's a turn of the 20th century model. This is observable in the medallion/etching combination. After about 1917 I believe, they started etching "D-8" inside the keystone on the blade instead of etching the 8 inside the D.

Condition:

Blade is straight. It is obvious that a restoration job has been done on it previously. There are still some distinct lines visible from sandpaper. Etching is almost totally visible but not totally readable. I would say that, overall, for a saw this age, the blade is in good condition.

Teeth are sharpened and it is cutting well. Not much fleam on the teeth, which is likely a result of the previous owner not being up to speed on that. Still very much useable as is and years of life left in the blade.

Original handle. Some wear and tear on the lamb's tongue and some minor damage along the top of the handle itself. Also, one of the horns appears to have taken some blunt trauma and then been smoothed over, but is maybe 70% still there. The other horn is all there. See photos.

I also think the previous owner may have removed the handle, sanded it (poorly) and then refinished with something lacklustre. I don't think it's the original handle. Also the medallion is spun to a skewed angle so it's obviously been removed or at least loosened at some point.

Selling as is, but also willing to overhaul the handle to varying degrees for you at an additional cost. We can discuss this later and I have some photos of other saws to which I have done this for comparison.

Asking $40. Willing to ship. Available for viewing or pickup in Dutton Park, Brisbane.

Hope to hear from someone soon,
Luke
