I have made the carcase of a box using the Gifkins dovetail jig on a router table. The box is 500 x 250 x 125, with 12mm thick sides. I haven't done the glue up yet.
Can anyone please advise the best way to cut a rebate 6 x 6mm on the inner sides at the top of the box, so that I can drop a 6mm thick veneered lid into this box and glue it into position? I don't want to risk any tearout from the router bit on either surface of the rebate.
For the 6mm thick plywood base, I usually use the Gifkins 5mm deep x 4mm thick rebate cutting bit with bearing, but that does tend to give some tearout too if I try to do a 5mm deep gouge first up. I usually set this to cut the rebate some 6mm above the bottom of the box sides.
I suppose this is one of the downsides of a dovetail jointed box. Not sure whether to dismantle the box and do stopped rebated on each box side, or to clamp the box sides together and run a slotting /reabte bit around the inside of the inverted box
I am open to any ideas and suggestions, thanks.
