Table Saw Lubrication

mardi 17 mars 2015

G'Day All,

I've been a member of this forum for a year or so now but, this is my first post!

I was fortunate enough to score a real bargain last week when a found a 12" Taiwanese contractor's table saw on Gumtree for $50. For that price, 3/4 of tank on petrol and afternoon trip to Newcastle to pick it up, I thought it was worth the risk. I also have to provide an motor for it but, I have a 1.5 hp doing nothing at the moment so the only risk was that the mechanicals would be unserviceable!

I've started to strip it down and have begun to remove all the rust and resin/wood dust and the parts I have cleaned so far show no appreciable wear. This include the two worms and their shafts. The condition of the gear surfaces will determine if this was real bargain or not!

I have searched the archives and found a few threads on lubrication but some of the threads were quite a few year old now. I'm asking what is the current view on lubricants for the gears (considering my gears/worms were heavily caked wood dust and resin)? and what lubricants should I use for shafts, etc.?
