Bed Head Infill Panel Advice

Making a simple vic ash bedhead with an infill of tongue and groove floorboards rebated into the rear of the frame.

Should I leave the tongue/groove on or edge joint then glue the pieces together ? (I recall reading something on here about this but cant find the thread now)
