old oregon beams

Hi, I'm after some info and advice. i got my hands on some old oregon beams that are roughly 110 x 270 x long. i was thinking of using it to make a table top but 110 thick is just too big for what i was trying to achieve. Firstly is it a good idea to try to get them ripped in half to 55 thick to then work with them and secondly does anyone know where i could get this done around adelaide, i live in Belair. I will have it cut into lenghts about 2.2m..
