LVL Rest on top plate?

jeudi 3 septembre 2015

Im installing a lvl beam 90x240 and because I want to hide it in the ceiling I need to have it rest on the top plate. The engineer has asked for 2 90x45 kdhd studs to support which needs to run right down to the flooring joists bearer. So this means i need to cut the bottom plate but I'm wondering do I also need to cut the top plate, so that the lvl rests directly on the double stud or would it be ok to keep the top plate and just have the double stud underneath it? Can you even cut a top plate like that without compromising the building structurally.
