Had some trouble with my guide bushings not being centered so I bought the Bosch RA1151 sub-base centering cone. Using it I discovered that it was pretty much useless due to the amount of shaft runout my Bosch GOF 1600 CE router has. With the 3/8" straight bit I find I have to 'dynamically' locate the subbase (not real safe) in order to get it properly centered. I tried a brand new 1/4" bit in my 1/4" collet that I have never used with similar results. I'll try to measure the runout with DTI when I get a chance...
My question to the forum is how much runout do you expect a router shaft to have? (This is my first router). Or are centering cones useless?
