Art Deco.....all about symmetry

samedi 21 novembre 2015

This is another Art Deco themed box. The box is made from what I guess to be mahogany. It was a salvaged table top from a table I estimate was made at least 60 to 70 years ago.
It has beautiful close grain that polishes to a superb finish and from there it was just finished with 1200 grit and burnishing oil.
The medallion in the lid is made from beefwood discs that were cut to form the symmetrical pattern and was fitted into a routed pocket in the lid. The trays also continue the AD theme and are made from cedar. The trays are lined with pigskin suede.
The box measures 280 mm x 170 mm x 90 mm high.
