I came across a woodworker who publishes Youtube videos. His name is Matt Cremona. He recently made a coffee table I quite liked the look of, so I've decided to make a similar version using blackwood.
First, I model it using Sketchup. I really like Sketchup creating 3D models. It takes a bit of learning, but once you've mastered the basics, it's quick to mock up very accurate drawings.

I'll need 3 panels. After basic dimensioning, I use dominoes to help with alignment. I avoid using a domino in the cut-zone for the final panel size.

Parallel clamps bring the panel together.
Panel glue up.JPG
I use polyurethane glue for blackwood. I find that PVA glues leave a green tinge. The polyurethane glue is a foaming glue.

Leave the foam to dry on the surface, then simply scrape it off before fine sanding.
cheers,
ajw
