Do not unplug the charger while the battery is still plugged in. Probably not a good idea for any charger but I do know that the XR battery charger fries itself if you short the pins on the power cord while a battery is still attached. For some reason I had a brain freeze and removed the power plug while the battery was still inserted (I do know better) and the pins fell against a tool and let out one almighty spark. The charger appeared to work fine after that but the batteries were left without a charge. Being a techie from way back I decided to take it apart and I found a resistor fried. On further inspection I also found at least two tiny surface mount resistors and one capacitor returned to dust. I wrote off my losses and picked up a replacement from Bunnings.
