After selling our house and moving into a rental while we build a new place, I have finally got the carving tools out again.
Our landlord is doing some upgrades around the block which includes replacing the delapidated fences. So, loads of fence posts to work with.
Based on a brown falcon which can often be seen perched on a fence post looking for a meal. I am going to enter it in the local council 'Salvaged Art' prize. I've decide to call it 'Peppermint Falcon (Falco Pulchella)'. The wood is Eucalyptus Pulchella, locally known as White Peppermint. Really nice wood to carve once through the weathered exterior, with a beautiful burnished look straight off the tool. I think you can see this on the unsanded cuts on the end grain. Whatever I carve next I am going to leave unsanded to exploit this.
