Bunya Pine

I had a look at some pine today,

a few big ones.jpglots of branches.jpgother.jpgother bark.jpg

This all came from the drive into the gardens here in Rocky, they fell over in the cyclone, there's a few big ones amongst them but to my eye there's a few too many branches to get nice clean boards out of them, this seems to be typical for this species, What would the main use have been in the past for this wood? Do they hang onto their knots? There were also some smaller but clean logs of a species that eludes me for the moment?
