Hi Guys,
Recently I ordered about $600 SGD of Walnut from a local wood supplier. A total of 86 ft. of 11mm by 110 mm walnut I did specify it be s4s which to my understanding is smooth 4 sides.
Attached in the photos are some pieces of walnut that I got. The rough cut areas are below 11 mm in thickness and in total almost 6 ft. worth. I also got wood that strangely is 9.9mm in the middle and over 11 mm at the sides. Will the wood shrink along the grain?
Sadly I also found that the wood sold I not kiln dried so it warped some quite badly.
Could someone please check my expectations? I would assume that the wood will be 11mm in thickness and 110mm in width at the minimum and is smooth i.e. planed maybe at most with planer marks when I specify S4S.
What kind of planks should I expect if I asked for S2s? Will it be nominal 11 mm thick and 110m wide with 2 rough sides? So once planed will be smaller?
Thanks.
Richard.
