Hi All,
have to firstly say I am very new at trying to build anything, and even though I have been on the site several times looking for tips and useful information etc, this is my first post. So as a 'newbie', hi from the Gold Coast also!
I have been doing a far bit of 'trial and error' on a couple of pieces I've been working on, all with mixed results, but here is a pic or two of my favourite coffee table I have had a go at, to date so far.
There is a 'before' pic, as it was when I 1st bought it, and after an initial sanding, and then a couple of the finished product.
It is Camphor Laurel, with matching legs, and is coated only in clear satin out of a can! Then a little wax, followed by a coating of furniture polish. I tried with clear gloss and a brush, but could not finish it properly without leaving either brush or sanding marks, even with different grits of paper etc?? I'll put that down to me being a bit green and not having enough patience yet!!
I call it the 'WAVE' table, as it reminds me of a wave rolling up onto a sandy beach. I positioned the front leg so it follows the angle of the curve of the wave, and also because it gives it a more of a contemporary or edgey look. I didn't think just standard straight legs at both ends would suit it...
Anyway, hope you like it, and any feedback you have would be greatly appreciated...
 Cheers!
