Green woodworking questions, looking to try before i buy

Hi, looking for any green woodworkers in or near melbourne (to the east preferred)

I'd like to do some bodging or green woodworking but thought it would be sensible to have a go before i rush out and buy lots of tools
(there seems to be dozens of variations of hundreds of different tools for almost everything) ,
Anything from spoons to chairs to carpentry would be of interest.
Spoons sound like a nice start, but which hook knife, and how heavy a hatchet etc.........)

If you know of any courses or can run me through the basics, i would appreciate that.

Something for the evenings instead of watching telly and looking at what other people are making on google
