I have used a generic 2HP on a number of different machines but have never used it for bulk thicknessing.
Today at the mens shed a couple of the blokes decided to put a heap (~200m) of rough sawn ~50 x 100mm pine though one of the thicknessers and seeing as we still have no reticulated dust extraction (long story) they decided to move the thicknesser outside and use a near new generic (Carbatec) 2HP DC to collect the chips.
Within 2 minutes the DC had choked. Opening up the Y throat, the inlet grid was blocked and there tangled on the inlet grid were also the remains of my expensive Senheiser earphones that I lost a couple of months ago. I reckon they must have fallen into the floor and they were sucked up by someone vacuuming the floor.
Clear everything and atart again and the blokes worked away generating their first full DC collector bag of chips. The thicknesser is part an old 12" combination 3Phase machine and having plenty of grunt I suggested they could put two pieces through on the flat and 4 on edge at the same time. No trouble for the thicknesser which just ate this up but big problem for the DC which choked repeatedly, so I appeared with an angle grinder and cut out the inlet grid. After that no problem collecting the chips and 5 bags later they decided to call it a day. There was a lovely breeze blowing which would have carried the invisible dust away and just as well as the DC was clearly leaking like a sieve.
SWMBO will be pleased as she gets 5 bags of clear pine shavings (the sixth one had some unknown material in it) for the stables.
