My dad has scored a salvage log of Euc raveretiana black ironbox (tree was removed due to storm damage). It is super hard, heavy and wicked to cut. I have been told the tree accumulates silicon in the heartwood. The blunting of freshly sharpened chainsaws testify to this or a comparable process.
Log is +600 dia small end and about 3400 long. Timber inside the sap-line is very dark, nearly black.
can get to a swingblade Lucasmill 8.30 or a dedicated Lucas slabber. No way I would attempt the granberg. Very sure we couldn't get 2 slabbing passes with a freshly sharpened chain.
Seldom see this species in such size around town so we want to have a go at doing something. Ideas most welcome. and yes we're beginner level millers.
Maybe I can get a pic tomorrow.
