Suspended Stairs treads with open riser advice needed?

samedi 3 mai 2014

Hi,

I am looking into an option of building my own stair case and wondering if suspended stairs with open riser like image below would be possible for a DIY.

I was thinking of using a F17 - 290 x 45mm Merbau laminated beam 1.0m wide for the treads?

Each tread would be supported at one end by an angle bracket (secured to tread and brick wall) and other end by 3 threaded bars (M10 or M12) @ 120mm centres.

I was thinking of overlapping treads by 50mm and use the bar closest to the front edge of the tread pass through and also support the rear end of the lower tread for more stability?

I calculate I would need 14 treads(2.4m ceiling height), with a length of 3360mm (175mm rises and 240mm going)

Top of treaded bar would be secured into a steel H beam with pre drilled holes at required centres, any ideas on the rough size of H beam needed to span 5.0m?

You feedback or ideas would be appreciated as I have never done stairs before?

Thanks

Andrew
