Routing on triton

Ok have played around more with steel but the wife has asked me to build a cupboard

so I have located the old triton and the router

can someone please help?

how do i get the router bit to stick out far enough out of the hole in the triton?..

do I need to purchase router bits with longer shanks? I guess that's the issue do I need to pay bunings a visit?
