This log with burl attached came with my lathe when purchased from Toowoomba a couple of years ago. He did not know what kind of wood it is, and I haven't been able to ID it either. It has come to near the top of my 'need to do' list however before I get started hacking it up I thought check and see if the wise woodies can help identifying it.
It does have a cypress'y smell when I cut a slice off the trunk to check the fresh wood, but I'm not sure if cypress' do produce burls. The bark is also different to a cypress I cut down in my block recently - however mine was a local back yeard tree and this one probably came from Toowoomba area or further west. There is also some gum ooze from the burl.
Any assistance would be appreciated.
