I mentioned in another thread that I had acquired a few small logs of Red Beech, courtesy of Cyclone Yasi.
My Grandad used this timber in a lot of the furniture he built, I grew up in the house that he built with this furniture all around me.
When I heard that this tree that grew across the road from the house came down in the cyclone, I just had to have it. My Dad cut it into billets that he could handle, and stored them in his shed until I could collect them.
I cut up one of the logs this afternoon on the bandsaw, this log was around 220mm diameter x 600mm long.
Here are a few photos, most have been dampened to show the colour a bit better.
