Has anyone got a Darex M5 drill sharpener?

jeudi 12 février 2015

25 years after first seeing one this week I managed to get my hands on a dirty and battered Darex M5 sharpener.

For those not familiar with the machines, they are effectively a bench grinder set up with a couple of jigs attached (cam operated) that make sharpening bits something that an unskilled person like me can easily do (to head off the controversy, I do sharpen by hand but I also have a liking for machine based gadgets :B)

Apparently these have not been made for 10-15 years, parts are scarce and in fact the US maker is about to stop even stocking spares at the end of the month. (I've asked for drawings but they don't hand those out either)

I have the holders to sharpen from 1/32 up to 3/4" but there were options available that allowed various point types to be produced and drills up to 1 1/8 to be sharpened. This required a larger holder as well as another fixture. As my drills run up to 26mm I would like to get this gear. If anyone has access to a M5 at work or at home, I would love some measurements of the two items as I doubt I'll see them on ebay anytime soon, let alone at a decent price. If anyone sees or hears of these on the market, please let me know that too.

Michael
