Hi,
I while ago I bought two 4 meter long, 250x150mm beams to split up and use as posts for a verandah. The seller said they had been used in an old bridge. They are very dense.
A whole lot of circular saw ripping, planing and sanding later, I now have 3 beautiful hardwood verandah posts. It would be nice to know what species of timber they are though. My guess is Tallowwood, but my father in laws builder think they're Spotted Gum. What do you think? Please see attached photos.
