Fixing Metal to wood (Demountable)

mardi 18 novembre 2014

Hi Guys,

Just scoping your thoughts on attaching metal to wood that can be disassembled but without compromising the strength of how it is fixed.

(For background knowledge, I am fixing metal 'I' beams as legs to a spotted gum table top.)

Although the table would only be disassembled when it came time for moving houses etc I need a strong hold as a dining table will take a fair whack of force e.g people leaning and/or sitting on it.

Would using regular screws end up striping once dismantled and reassembled a few times? What are your thoughts on cutting threads into wood and using metal bolts? although table thickness is only 45mm and wouldn't have too many threads to hold on too.

Thanks again!
