Box . . . like . . . ish!!!!

OK so it's not a box in the general sense of the term but it is 'a space surrounded by wood' so I'm posting it anyway! Our club challenge this year was to make whatever out of a piece of Klinki Pine 200x100x700mm long - sounds simple enough until you work with Klinki - only one or two shades away from Balsa wood :C

Inspiration for this came from an antique red cedar mirror stand my BIL copied in Tassie Myrtle and an el-cheapo jewellery stand Mum had in the nursing home. Had planned on doing it in 'real wood' one day but this seemed like a good opportunity for a 'mock-up'.

Three new challenges in this one for me - had never tried bent laminations before (drawer front), never tackled an inlay before and hadn't even heard of 'flame polishing' perspex (earring racks). The keys and inlay etc are all Australian Ebony for a bit of local content. Even made the thumbscrews myself from some threaded rod, brass tube and a bit of Ebony.

Pretty pleased with the result and the judge liked it enough to take out the challenge comp' plus Best of Show - pretty stoked with that :U

Comments and critque welcome!
