Camellia oil additives required?

jeudi 24 décembre 2015

Hello, decided to give camellia oil a go for use on my hand tools and cast iron tables ( sawbench and router table). Found a good price for it here, and it was delivered overnight from Marrickville, Sydney to Townsville, North Qld. Amazingly fast !! It has very little smell, and I believe it doesn't go rancid like some oils. Has a shelf life of 2 years, preferable refrigerated

Q1. Am wondering about the difference between this oil and the one sold by Carbatec for 4x the price, and the camellia oil used by the Japanese craftsmen and chefs. Can anyone please advise on this , and also tell me if there is anything else I should be adding to the camellia oil e.g., light machine oil?

Q2. Can anyone suggest a suitable applicator for this oil, so that it can be just wiped on the hand tools prior to being stored away? I have seen the ones from Japan Tools, but the shipping rates are exhorbitant ( $130). I am sure there are some old style applicators used in the good old days. All ideas and suggestions very welcome

Merry Christmas everyone
