Help with wood selection

Hi, Forgive me I am new at this. I would like to make some simple kitchen chairs for home and I have found some plans but I am unsure what wood to use. As this is my first project and the chairs are very basic and they will be painted white to match our current kitchen table.

Can I use non structural pine or am I way off.
