An "Oh Wow"moment

mercredi 11 juin 2014

Thanks to member Ellanjacobs, I hope i got that right, I have had an Oh Wow moment.

I have been having sore hand troubles while using sanders. I was needing a new Random orbit sander and read in the forum how happy Ellanjacobs was with the new Mirka Ceros sander so I decided to check them out. There are a few places in Australia that sell the Mirka Ceros but I wanted a 125mm or 5 inch sander and all I could find in Australia was the 6 inch or 150mm one. The sellers in Australia were fairly un-helpful and prices were ranging from $550 plus gst for a sander in a cardboard box to $860.00 for one in a systainer. I looked on the net and contacted quite a few sellers in the USA with none wanting to sell to Australia. I then contacted Peachtree Woodworking in the USA and they were happy to send me one. $670.00 on the Visa card later and I got a 5 inch sander in a systainer and a pack of velcro pad protectors and an full assortment of Abranet discs and some heavy duty Abranet discs delivered to my door.13 days from payment to delivery. Packed fantastically.

Out to the workshop. Hooked it to the vacuum, found an old cord from a computer and plugged it in and I must say, it is fantastic. Quiet, smooth, very very light and not a hint of dust. Went through the grits on some camphor laurel shelves that I am doing and I am wrapped. Sanded the three shelves and no hand pain.

So thanks Ellanjacobs for the heads up and anyone looking for a new random orbit should seriously look at the Mirka Ceros. I am going to save now and get just the 150mm sander part to compliment the 125. It just plugs into the same transformer.

For those worried about warranty. There are Australian repairers or just send it back to Peachtree. I have a very extensive array of tools and machines and in all of my years have had only one or two grizzles requiring warranty.
