Help with Motor

samedi 26 avril 2014

Hey guys, I recently picked up the Hercus 260 lathe and now I have the motor out.

It s a 550w (0.75hp) Crompton Parkinson 3 phase with 16mm (5/8") shaft. I have decided to get it converted from star to delta and use a VFD as many recommend here. I pulled it apart to clean it and found that one bearing is noisy, that is not a big deal, the main problem is the conversion to Delta. The wiring joins are totally buried inside the coils. I have cut a lot of the strings and tried to coax it out but to no avail. It is not like the others I have seen pictured that were easy to get to, if there is a join in there it is well and truly buried. I think I need to cut my losses and get another motor for those two reasons.

I can get a 240V motor, but many say they are not smooth enough, I also want variable speed. So I am thinking of going 3 phase again, My quick search (of 0.75 to 1.0hp) shows nothing with 5/8" shaft. So I have come unstuck at the first hurdle. I am also unsure about the footprint and clearance to the 260's casting. Can anyone point me towards a good replacement motor for the 260 that fits?

Thanks

Karl
