A hundred years ago we sent our men off to fight in WW1 the war to end all wars, that worked well didnt it? Then we sent them off to fight in WW2, then we sent them off to fight in Korea, then we sent them off to fight in Vietnam, then we sent them off to fight in Iraq, then we sent them off to fight in Afghanistan and in between we sent them off to fight in a plethora of other minor skirmishes and trouble spots, for what?
It seems a lot of wars and trouble spots erupted after the end of the war to end all wars, I wonder why that is? These wars were fought supposedly to make the world a better place, our young men fought and died in pursuit of this mentality, how is the world a better place now for having fought all these wars?
Many of our young men died fighting these wars and the ones that did return, returned with damaged minds and damaged bodies. When they seek help for their disabilities, our government, the very government that sent them off to fight in their stead, fights them in their fight for assistance to battle the demons and maladies that bedevil them and they are left to battle their fears, their nightmares and their sleepless nights alone, how is the world a better place for them?
The peoples of the latest troublespots, through their religious zeal, despots and religious nuts they have fostered and allowed to multiply, complain loudly of their lot, tuck their tails between their legs and run away when things go pear shaped then demand we give them shelter and fix that which they have created.
On arrival they complain of conditions and processing time and enter into riots and vandalism destroying the shelter we provide. Once settled they continue with their ways, allow their holy men to radicalise their youth, demand we adopt their barbaric laws and seek to turn this country into that from which they have escaped.
We need to stop meddling in others back yards, mind our own business and let these people look after their own interests. Why is one Australian soldier's life worth less than the life of a Syrian, an Iraqi, an Afghan? Leave them to their own devices, if left to themselves they will either flourish or fade, either is better that what we have now..

Of despots, religious zeal and that which we have created in the pursuit of peace.
