Outdoor table, best finish and best way to glue up the top?

jeudi 24 juillet 2014

Hi everyone,

I'm planning on making a small outdoor table out of tassie oak. The top itself will be ~20mm thick, with the top formed by glueing three 250mm wide boards.

I have two questions on this:

- What glue would people recommend that can deal with people being outside? I plan to edge glue each board together, no fancy joins there. Would something titebond3 which is waterproof be OK? I'm concerned about the glueline coming apart over time, especially being outside in sunshine & cold.

- What sort of finish would be best for the outdoors? Should I go all the way to a marine grade varnish for maximum protection?

Any help would be greatly appreciated,

Thanks,

Steven.
