Brittle Gum and Argyle Apple for furniture

lundi 21 juillet 2014

Hi Guys,

I am pulling a couple of eucalypts out of my property - A medium sized Argyle Apple (E. Cinerea) which is going soon and a 15 meter Brittle Gum (E.mannifera) which will go sooner or later too. Both trees have large straight sections that I will slab/mill myself for timber - the rest will go to firewood (the brittle gum has a good 8 meters of dead straight trunk starting at 600mm diam tapering down to 400mm or so)

Has anyone on here worked with these before? I take it they arent highly regarded in woodworking circles as the searching I have done has yielded little info on them.

If you havent worked with these - i would appreciate advice from those that have worked with your atypical eucalypt species....for me this is an opportunity to use my chainsaw mill and knock up an outdoor table and benches...im keen to see this timber put to some sort of use besides firewood or mulch.

Brendan
