Many of you will have noticed a new option for having your eBay purchases delivered. Instead of your home or the local Post Office being the delivery venue, you can opt for it to be delivered to a participating Woolies branch. As there was (and now still is) some doubt as to whether the delivery would take place before we left home for some winter warmth further north, I opted for a Woolies delivery, in the belief that it may be quicker, and it may also be easier for a re- direction if we had left home before it was delivered.
I got the first tracking result with my parcel arriving at Homebush West on Friday last, after being picked up at Lidcombe the day before. Until this morning that tracking info remain unchanged, which is situation normal for the scandalously named tracking system (unfortunately). Today it gets to South Burnie just after 6am and by 07.19 it has been redirected it would subsequently appear to Hobart, about 4 hours drive away. It seems that it will go to the State Head Office for Woolworths, and will maybe come back tomorrow, sometime in the afternoon, in Woolies internal mail system. If it misses tomorrow, next Tuesday is the next delivery of internal mail for Burnie Woolies.
The thing that really pees me off, is that it was within 1Km of the woolies store when it got to the South Burnie mail centre, and about 15 to 20 minutes for me to pick it up myself.
The only phone contact for the mail centre is a 1300 number, and by the look of it I was speaking to a nice Indian lady in Queensland, who thought that it was being picked up by courier (or Woolies) from the mail centre for delivery to the store. Woolies said that stuff came at any time of day, and as soon as it arrived it would be scanned and an automatic email would be sent to me giving a pin code for my retrieval of the parcel. I got to the store by about 16.45 and spoke to the store manager about my frustrating day. She explained what most likely had occurred was that the parcel if too large will go to Hobart, and then come back in the infernal mail system Woolies has. The parcel contains a headlight assy, for a Nissan Patrol, so not sure what the carton size will be but shipping was free, so my guess is that the box size won't be too excessive, but certainly bigger than a letter.
The following is the tracking info per Auspost, in reverse order.

What Have I Learned.
Well, all freight goes with Auspost (with my particular seller, anyway) even if delivery is to a Woolies Store. Woolworths do not use their own logistics for any parcel shipping. Shipping to your home address or your own local Post Office would be a better option unless you are unable to access the P.O. in business hours. Woolies do have extended trading hours in many or perhaps most parts of the country, which could be useful to some people.
I am most unlikely to ever use the Woolies option again. I would also caution others against using this service because it has been extremely difficult to get to anyone who had the slightest clue what was going on, there are too many organisations or disorganisations more like it with fingers in the pie, and too much duck shoving going on.
Finally if you see a one eyed Patrol ute with a Tvan in tow between Burnie and Bathurst in the next week and a bit be nice, I have tried to get it fixed!!:((
