[Ongoing] 12ft Skiff - Summer Breeze Build

dimanche 6 juillet 2014

Hello folks!

I'm currently building a Summer Breeze Skiff from plans by David Beede. I'm updating an Imgur album every day or two with process pictures: Summer Breeze Construction - Imgur

I'll be adding pictures as construction moves along, and I'll post an update here whenever there's a significant update to the photo album. Would you folks want me to post all the pictures here as well?

I hope this album will be of use to other beginner boatbuilders, and I welcome any feedback and comments you fine folk might have.

I'm making two major changes from the plans: switching from a leeboard to a centerboard (mounted right in front of the frame), and switching rigs to a larger balanced lug sail (and moving the mast forward to accommodate). I'll also be using a Storer-style cassette rudder.

--Current Notes--

[5 July '14] Right now there's two issues I'm trying to resolve. I've put the screws too close to the side and bottom panel post-trim edges when attaching them to the transom, and I'm brainstorming ways to avoid screw pull-out. For the other issue, the Titebond 3 I'm using for the spars is probably drying before I can laminate them- I will try an early-morning glue-up. All the pictures I have are up in the album- currently 51 photos!
