Hi all,
I am a newbie to this forum but need some advice. I am building a two storey house with floor joists (and underside of floorboards) to the second floor exposed underneath to the ground floor. I am doing this for aesthetic reasons. The joists size will be 300mm x 45mm and I am contemplating either green messmate or F17 KDHW. The messmate is cheaper but being green I would anticipate some shrinkage and movement. What I would like to know is this going to cause problems. If the shrinkage is uniform across each joist then that is OK. I would expect 5mm-10mm shrinkage over the course of the drying period (2 years?). Should I also expect bowing, cupping and twisting? This I don't want. The other concern is end splitting.
If anyone has any experience with working with green messmate then any advice would be greatly appreciated.
cheers Tony
