Turntable

When in the mood, I like to fiddle with leather work.

One thing I need to do is cut leather straps from 3mm plain embossing hide, beautiful stuff.

To do that I use a hand held plough gauge, see here http://www.woodworkforums.com/showth...sewing+machine

The blade needs to be razor sharp. Phil (Machtool) placed the blade up in his surface grinder, however, we were not able to get it sharp enough.

Because the blade is so thin at the cutting edge, it flexed away from the wheel. The blade is cut from an ex industrial hack saw blade about 2mm thick.

I'm thinking now to get an old record player, mount a circular piece of mdf on the turntable, and apply a sheet of fine emery paper.

The idea is to lower the blade onto the revolving emery using the arm, maybe, and hone the blade. Does this make sense?

My question is, who has an old record player they don't want? Beer could change hands!
