Last night I turned up a few blanks - 2 resin and 2 Masur Birch.
The difference in turning properties is quite striking, as I have noticed before.
Wood takes less time to turn but resin/plastic is easier to finish. That's how I feel anyway.
I don't particularly enjoy turning resin/plastic as I find it very messy. On the other hand the results can be spectacular.
It has also struck me as to just how much of any blank ends up as shavings!! A 23mm square blank for a Snr. Gent ends up with a bloody great hole and about !mm of material round the tube!
I guess for resins/plastics a set of expensive molds would cut waste dramatically, but would the blanks be cheaper in the long run?
Just a few thoughts.
